The Maritime Museum & Aquarium

Welcome to join Unimeet to the Gothenburg Maritime Museum and learn more about Gothenburg the Port city

Port cities are alike, but also unique. People, goods, and ideas move across the oceans, and the connections to the surrounding world has shaped Gothenburg in different ways. The docks and shipyards long dominated work life in the city, and everyone knew someone that worked there. Young men often went to sea, ships returned home with precious cargoes and drunken sailors roamed the town. Today, much is different, but every year the port handles millions of tons of goods – vehicles, clothes, electronics, food, and much more. And the biggest ships in the world arrive weekly.

The Maritime Museum & Aquarium

The exhibitions tell the story of Gothenburg the Port City, and of Swedish seamen and passengers on the oceans. Here you can find seafaring experiences, scientific expeditions, beautiful navigational instruments, and mysterious souvenirs as well as the dark history of colonialism. The Aquarium shows fish and other animals from the sea, both cods and crabs from the Swedish west coast and sharks and corals from tropical waters.

Join Unimeet to an interesting lecture at The Maritime Museum & Aquarium! The museum is open to 20:00 so take the opportunity to explore the museum before or after the lecture. Free admission for students (with student ID).
