Networking in focus at communications event

On May 22, Unimeet Gothenburg held a communications event together with International House. International communication students got to meet international professionals, take part of trend spotting and and get insights in how the way into the Swedish job market can look like. The event was organized by  Unimeet Gothenburg, Göteborg & Co, and International House, Business Region Göteborg, with the aim of providing participants with a unique opportunity to learn more about the industry and expand their professional network.

International communication students and professionals were at Studenternas Hus the 22nd of May for a communications event. After a short introduction by Unimeet and International House, who both arranged this event, it was time for Anna-Maria Ölander from &friends to present her trendspotting about AI. The participants got to hear about, among other things, that AI might know what is ‘right’, but not what is ethical, fair, just or human – and communicators’ roles forward will involve editing rather than producing.

Following Anna-Maria was a panel discussion with Rachel Bunting, Communications at AstraZeneca, and Stefan Lundin, Chief Communications Officer at Geely Holding, where Jessica Humleklo from International House was a moderator. Topics talked about included how the panelists’ companies facilitate communication, cultural differences, and about AI’s effect on the role of a communications professional.  Questions also touched upon crisis communication and internal communication. Pauline Modig-Pontois, from Göteborg & Co, then took the stage, where “it’s all about the story” was the main idea. She presented her journey from the French west coast to the Swedish one, how she got into the Swedish labor market and how she learnt that På Spåret is Swedish culture at it’s finest.

The afternoon wrapped up with fika and mingle with the presenters that had attended, which was very appreciated. The participants were very happy with the event, and a masters student in communication thought it was hopeful and inspirational:

— I was looking for some real-world inspiration, and I found it at the Unimeet Gothenburg x International House Gothenburg event. Seeing the end of my studies makes me extremely excited to kick off a brand new chapter in my life. As thrilling as it is, I have to admit that it brings some fear with it. But thanks to the insights and stories shared by professionals, excitement now outweighs the fear!

Unimeet Gothenburg is a collaboration between the University of Gothenburg, Chalmers University of Technology, and The Trade & Industry Group at Göteborg & Co, aimed at strengthening the exchange between the universities’ international students and the business community, creating cultural and social meeting places, as well as networking opportunities.
