International students welcomed to Ericsson for business visit

On the 5th of May, international students had the opportunity to visit Ericsson, a global company within information- and communication technology. The students got to listen to how the company operates and different ways in as an international student. The company visit is arranged to offer the participants a rare chance to learn more about the industry and to expand their professional network.

Ericsson had a Unimeet visit on the 5th of May, where 30 curious international students participated. The visit started with Victoria Halvardsson Burkholder, Employer Branding Specialist, presenting the 150 year old history of Ericsson and different opportunities within the company as an international student. Mirac Günes, Security System Manager, then took over to speak about his journey from being a master student to the role he has today. The last speaker was Chantal Liao, AI/ML Driven Antenna and Circuit Design Researcher, who presented her career path from Taiwan to Sweden. She also presented the work regarding 6G that Ericsson is working with, which gathered interest from the students. After the presentations, students could mingle and fika with both speakers as well as student ambassadors, who could talk about their experience with working for the company.

20 year old Malin Ommundsen, student within Software Engineering & Management at University of Gothenburg, thinks the visit gave her perspective:

— Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about what 5G is, because I remember as a child that I had a lot of questions around like 4G, 3G, and especially when connections didn’t work and what that made things possible. Now that I know that 6G is under works, Ericsson seems like a really like innovative company to be at.

Malin laughs a little when the question is raised of Ericsson perhaps being her future workplace, and is positive to the idea:

— It seems like a magical place like right by the sea, but also just all the people and different perspectives. Yeah, I would definitely want to work here if I had a job positioning opening.

Unimeet Gothenburg’s ambition in organizing company visits for international students is to, together with the companies and employers in the Gothenburg region, showcase the city as an attractive workplace and attract future international talents to stay in Gothenburg after completing their studies.

Unimeet Gothenburg is a collaboration between the University of Gothenburg, Chalmers University of Technology, and The Trade & Industry Group at Göteborg & Co, aimed at strengthening the exchange between the universities’ international students and the business community, creating cultural and social meeting places, as well as networking opportunities.
